So the Winter season of hockey is over.....and many of you might be asking yourself, "now what"? With the closing of the Winter season comes an open door of options for the off season, many of which can get pretty confusing. As a result, I have taken some time to break down the various programs that are available right here in town over the off season, as well as some training techniques you can take advantage off on your own...free of charge. Though there are many options available out of town in the Summer (AAA, Elite leagues, MASH, etc), we have some pretty quality programs run right here in town that you may want to take a look at ....especially as gas prices climb over $3. If you have any questions regarding what you see in this link below, don't hesitate to send me an email at davvy@charter.net and I will do my best to help you out. Have a great off season, and we will see you at the rink!

Based on the success of our Wednesday night Mite open hockey sessions, we have decided to continue the pilot program thru the Summer to gage the results. As a result, we will be providing additional, FREE, open hockey sessions for all players who will be mites and/or mini mites NEXT SEASON. As with the Wednesday night sessions during the year, we will ask for parent coaches to attend and monitor the on ice activity. This will be strickly "open" hockey, with very little structure. A chance for kids to continue to get comfortable with the game and enjoy themselves on those hot Summer days. No need to sign up...simply bring your child if/when you like and enjoy some additional skating opportunities! The schedule is as follows (please note the different time the first day):
June 15 12:00-1:00 July 20 1:00-2:00
June 22 1:00-2:00 July 27 1:00-2:00
June 29 1:00-2:00 Aug. 3 1:00-2:00
July 6 NO HOCKEY Aug. 10 1:00-2:00
July 13 1:00-2:00 Aug. 17 1:00-2:00
Aug. 31 1:00-2:00
Those who may have their own goalie equipment, and want to wear it to the sessions, are encouraged to do so. Please, if you are not a certified MAHA coach, DO NOT get on the ice with the kids. There are too many liability and insurance risks. Thanks for your understanding.
A large congratulations and thanks should go out to all involved in the Maverick Goals for Kids Promotion this past season. With new sponsors, Eide Bailly and Realty Executives, joining our original sponsor Earl Johnson Furniture, we were able to raise $4770 for the South Central Children's Project. This money is earmarked for underpriveleged children in the area to offset the cost of playing hockey. A total of 106 goals were scored by the Maverick Men's team during home games at $15 a piece, per sponsor. Thanks again to all who were involved as this money will help many continue to play the game they love!!
A special congratulations go out to Ken Essay and Troy Jutting on their individual coaching honors.
Ken was awarded the Class A High School Boys coach of the year and Troy was awarded the WCHA coach of the year. Both are tremendous honors, and we are blessed to have such knowledgable and talented hockey people right here in Mankato.
Congratulations guys!
Mankato has been awarded the 2008-2009 Peewee A South Regional tournament. These tournaments showcase some fantastic hockey and allow Mankato to give all involved a good hockey experience. We are excited to be putting on the Peewee A South Regional tournament next season!
As our traveling season comes to an end, I have compiled a brief synopsis of the past season...as well as some interesting information going into the off season and next year. See the attached document for my Seasonal Wrap Up.
